Hello All-
Please support me walking in memory of my Mother Erlinda Boyles Espiritu at the Boston 2009 Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk on Saturday, October 3rd at Castle Island in South Boston.
As many of you know, I lost my Mother to pancreatic cancer May of last year. It was last March 2008 that she was diagnosed stage four pancreatic cancer and given a 3-6 month prognosis. In that time, she managed to live a month with her love one’s beside her.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat. This is due, in part, to a lack of research. Pancreatic cancer typically spreads rapidly and is seldom detected in its early stages, which is a major reason why it's a leading cause of cancer death. Signs and symptoms may not appear until pancreatic cancer is quite advanced and surgical removal isn't possible.
The Espiritu & Halsdorff families have decided that we want to honor and remember my Mother, Erlinda Boyles Espiritu, by joining forces with the Marc Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, the leading provider of grants for pancreatic cancer research, in its campaign to fill the funding gap. Having lived through the disease, our family is using our loss to inspire action that will hopefully improve the treatments for the disease and prolong the lives and comfort of those afflicted with pancreatic cancer.
